Trial of the Accused Terrorist, Tiali Berus, Commenced on Yavin IV wiht Sentencing

November 28, 2011

After being taking into custody for terrorism along with several other crimes and brought before the Republic, Tython native Tiali Berus stood before three judges to wait her. Reporters Daana Kira and Rakiko Lowtide were present at the hearing which started with a plea of guilty. Reporter Rakiko Lowtide was even asked to take the stand to convey excerpts from articles written about Tiali and Tython.

Crowd begans to gather to hear the case against Tiali Berus.

Yavin IV: The anticipated trial of self-proclaimed terrorist and kidnapper, Tiali Berus was to take place on Yavin IV. But with entering a plea of guilty to charges of terrorism, first degree murder, and second degree murder on both Yavin IV and Tython, the hearing proceeded into a sentencing phase whereby the evidence and facts were used to determine the correct punishment of the accused. Witnesses and all the physical evidence were brought before a panel of three Judges, Magister Salene Lusch of Zonama Sekot, Senator Muuonigar of Coruscant, and Senator Rain of YavinIV. The prosecution was headed by the Republic chancellor himself, Baccus Altus. The defense, headed by Jedi Master Master Luv Moonsoo from Yavin IV, put on a showing that the defendant had only acted out against wrongs done to her in the past and her crimes were based on passion rather than any real intent or understanding and asked the court for leniency and understanding.

Grand Fleet officer and Tython governor candidate Zach Rodchester was the first to take the stand. He explained that after he personally helped extinguish the fires on Tython from the first attack he also accompanied the security detail that boarded Ms. Berus’ ship to ask question based on the fact she had become a person of interest. Stating that they had disarmed themselves per her request then then sat down to talk with her. According to his testimony, Tiali had stated that it was the Republic’s fault the bombs were dropped because Senator Dracos along with members of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) had tried to arrest her and also that she would cause more explosions if the Republic moved against her and it would be their fault.

Rodchester then went on to say that she attempted to kill them with a turbolaser as they tried to leave. Rodchester also opined that even if she was lashing because of something that may have had happened to her family in the past, she still had no reason to harm innocents. Furthermore, he gave his own account of the terrible things that had befallen his family and he never once tried to bomb and kill people.

Next up, GNN reporter Rakiko Lowtide was called to the stand to put on record the evidence he and reporter Daana Kira had written and holo-cammed about. Specifically the holo-pics of the fires on Tython after the bombing. The defense asked the reporter about the interview he had with Ms. Berus and her demeanor. The reporter stated she was cordial and he wouldn’t have had a problem interviewing her again.

Finally Tiali Berus took the stand to plead her unique circumstances. She admitted to being wrong about many of the decisions she maid, specifically thinking that holding Senators for ransom was a good idea and using real weapons as a barrier to be arrested. She never thought that the Republic would have moved against her so rashly forcing her to use the bombs. Again she restated that ultimate guilt should lie with the Republic and the troopers.

She stated her actions resulted from an overwhelming urge of revenge for when her family was killed from fallen debris of a craft shot down by Republic forces over Tython when she was a younger. She added that if the Republic had spoken with her, none of this stuff would have ever happened and that she wanted the court to know she was sorry for her part in the events that transpired.

After short speeches by the prosecution and the defense reiterating their stances, the panel of three Judges convened to reach a proper sentencing for the girl that was before them. After a long deliberation the judges finally returned and accepted the guilty plea of the Ms. Berus. Her personal effects were then ordered seised to be used to compensate those harmed in the attacks and she herself was given a 10 years sentence to be carried out on Yavin IV under the watch of the NOJ. She was also told she would be facing a trial for kidnappings that she is also the prime suspect for. At the end of the trial, Tiali Berus claimed she was innocent of Yavin’s bombing, even if she accepted the guilt for Tython’s.

Just a note…. The accused claims she was a quiet village girl in the back of nowhere when the bombs (that may have actually been a crashing starship carrying ex Gov Benee’s mother) destroyed her town, she walked to the Jedi enclave on Tython and from her Space Station and Star Ship (not Star Fighter) bombed the city full of Jedi with high explosives unmolested and uncaptured, made her way to Yavin and did so AGAIN, and that to pay her restitution she has millions of credits hidden away under a Tythonian lake.

No one at all questioned any of this? How a poor orphaned grieving waif acquired several tens of millions of credits worth of equipment and a space station, on her own, with no assistance or allies, in a few weeks time?

Who is running Republic Intelligence anyway?

There is an old trooper saying that applies in this situation…and i think it applies to all armies Miltary intelgenice is an oxymoron (ooc we allowed her to do this stuff to extend the storyline as long as possible…otherwise yes we would have gotten her right away)

Perhaps Mr. Rodchester, using other forms of Intelligence gathering might be in the cards for Tython after this event?

((Ah yes, and for some reason people were saying that SWRP is dead. It looks pretty alive to me. Don’t you agree?))

(( OOC:I agree. SWRP has been very much active. It is thanks to people here in the community who continue to work together to bring great story lines and cooperative rps with user and sim staff to make sure things do run smoothly. Thanks to everyone on the Tython Staff and abroad for making things happen beautifully. The community isn’t dead people, for this is just the beginning of greater things to come.))

As a personal victim of Tiali and her criminal acts on Tython. I, and many people in the galaxy that were touched by these terrorist acts of such a woman are at some ease at the sentencing of this criminal. Justice has been served. Hopefully this trial shall be seen as a way to tell the galaxy and its criminals that if you do the crime, you will pay the time.

Long live The New Republic and The Senate.

    Ambassador Benae of Tython
