Two reporters kidnapped

November 29, 2011

Two journalists, the Pantoran Rakiko Lowtide and the Togruta Daana Kira, both working for the Galactic News Network (GNN) were kidnapped while they were in reportage in Bakura. The abduction happened in the street, facing the museum. The kidnappers landed their ship in the middle of the street, outnumbered the nearby troopers from the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) and forced the reporters to board.

They were brought to a system of the Expanded Region. Here a witness noticed the operation and called the GAR and allies. They tried a recovery which unfortunately did not succeed. As far as we know, contacts are established with the kidnappers and negotiations would be in progress.

Although the details on the location or the negotiation will not be revealed as they could impede the release of our two colleagues.

I say, I do find it interesting that Ms. Kira was kidnapped and is still missing, but was in fact the one who published this very article! While I admire your dedication to reporting the news Ms. Kira, may I suggest that instead of reporting on your kidnapping, you use whatever holonet access you have to contact help? Even if you are unaware of your present location, the holonet access point would be able to be traced.

((The article is published under my WordPress account, which doesn’t mean Daana wrote it up in universe. The article signature says otherwise))

((people dont need a reasons to do anything plus someone might not have liked the way they were presented on GNN and want payback or whatever. Either way a motive does not really matter the GNN reporters are very well known and have reported on nearly ever high profile scoop in the galaxy.))

(( Haven’t been online but if it’s done by who I think did it, they were kidnapped merely for the sake of chaos IC. Considering their high profile status that comes from interviewing high profile players, it would also be for the sake of credits. ))

((Reporters are often kidnaped by Terrorists in RL for political gains the major difference between a guerrilla movement and a terror group is more often legally marked by the difference in targets. A guerrilla targets military personnel while a terrorist targets civilians whom have nothing to do with an occupation or a war. Targeting reporters would obviously gain media attention however, it would not be the legitimate act of unconventional warfare as media are not military personnel or politicians of a belligerent state or government.))

((Sadly, reporters in real life are regularly kidnapped. The handling in the media themselves vary from daily support messages published to no publicity at all, according to how the negotiations are handled. They often are held several months along, some are killed.

GNN would not publish details during the captivity, a little more after, but don’t expect a very detailed article; the purpose, In Character, is to discourage other kidnappings. Also the played captivity time is going to match SWRP fast pace))
