GAR want the Twilight back

February 7, 2012

Reporters from GNN, Daana Kira and Rakiko Lowtide, were able to meet with a GAR Captain to speak about the recent troubles between the Hutts and the Republic army.

Bakura: Captain Snoop of the Grand Army of the Republic’s (GAR) 724th Platoon, was kind enough to answer a few question. The specific topic was the recent conflict between GAR and Hutt forces.

GAR Aacademy on Bakura

Captain Snoop stated that the operation wasn’t against Hutt forces per se, but attempting to recover the Twilight, an experimental GAR ship that had been taken by a previous GAR officer, Wise, who had defected to the Hutt space. Since that time it had been in the care of the Renegade Fleet. Captian Snoop insisted that GAR had never given up hope on recovering the ship as it was the going to be the cornerstone of their fleet. He also stated that no talks had been initiated with either the Hutts or the Renegade fleet as those would have been futile and GAR was only taking back what was rightfully theirs.

The original operation was a GAR independent mission that the Republic was not involved in. There is still a lot of confusion about the status of Grand Army in relation to the Republic with many in the Republic believing that they are beholden at the whim of the Republic, while most GAR personnel view the organization as a separate independent power in alliance with the Republic. If such confusion lies in between the actual allied parties, it may be understandable that outside forces may also mistake GAR actions as being that of the Republics, though there are several people working quickly to stop these mental conclusions.

Upon the failure of the first operation due to overwhelming defense forces, another one like it is not planned for as the security around the ship is probably even greater. Now GAR is willing to speak with the Hutt council about the mater, though the Captain wasn’t in high hopes about the outcome. However, other plans are also being instituted and drawn up. The original attack was focused only on retaking The Twilight and other targets were purposely avoided and a lot of effort went into making sure innocent or other Hutt forces were not harmed. Snoop believes any retaliation by the Hutt forces would only show them as the real villains.

The Twilight was damaged in the initial operation, though Snoop remarked that the important parts were still viable. Most of what was damaged was easily repairable or defenses put in by Renegade forces.

On a final statement the Captain stated that the Hutts should treat The Twilight like how Wise was after his execution. Wise’s remains were handed over to the Hutts to avoid conflict and the remains of The Twilight should likewise be handed to GAR. An interesting idea, though it will probably fall on deaf ears as diplomats from all parties involved are scrambling to bring an end to the situation.

Despite any good intensions of gar. The fact remains a ship was attacked in hutt space. Which is its own government. The problem is beyond the issue of one ship, and more that the republic or its supporting factions can not simply do what they like. We have as much right to not be subjected to random attacks on ships in our space as the republic does. Of course if the Grand Army would like to speak I am sure something can be arranged. However, I can not promise the degree of warmth they will recieve.
