A Closeup View of Ukio

February 20, 2012

As Ukio petitions to become a part of the Republic, reporters Daana Kira and Rakiko Lowtide made a tour to get a feel for the system.

The farmlands of Ukio

Ukio: Landing near one of the countless farms in this system, we met with Magister Salene Lusch and Master Flint Mokeev, both from Zonama Sekot but who are temporarily helping to represent Ukio and their bid to become a member of the Galactic Republic. They are also in talks with Ukio in improving their agricultural industry with techniques from Zonama Sekot.

Most of the inhabitants of the planet are engaged in helping with the farms, carrying on a tradition of growing food for the core worlds that have spanned centuries. Recently after large portions of the land have been given back to public use thanks to the Hutts such as Shaka, the Ukions wish to join the New Republic. This would not only provide a consistent market for their goods but also provide heightened security for the system.

The land itself was beautiful, as the farms extend beyond the eyesight. The main crop being a grain used as a staple food source for several systems across the Galaxy. It’s a rather peaceful world that seems a perfect fit for the Republic. Magister opined that the only reason it wouldn’t be able to join the Republic is the weariness of some of the senators to outsiders, but both her and Master Mokeev stated it would be a beneficial relationship between both. Both are also staying out of the political processes on Ukio and their election of a Senator, but stated they hope it will be a local that represents them.

As for Zonama Sekot joining the Republic, both masters were reluctant that Zonama would take that step as their culture is very different from many of the beliefs of the Republic and they wish for Zonama to stay neutral so can deal with any other faction in the Galaxy. However they are very pleased to be able to help with Ukio’s agricultural industry.
