Sneak Peek of the Krayt Dragon Sanctuary

February 22, 2012

An Elder Krayt Dragon

Visiting Mos Taike in Tatooine, reporters of the Galactic News travelled in a luxurious barge along with an expert of the Krayt dragons.

The Krayt Dragon population near Mos Taike is active again. These large creatures, living in the dune sea are known to be extremely dangerous if disturbed. They live on Bantha, another huge creature of Tatooine, but also attack those they believe are a threat. The eldest ones are even impervious to heavy blaster fire, which leaves little choice to those they attack but attempting to flee faster than they can run.

They have a sanctuary called the Krayt Dragon Graveyard, a network of caves and ravines where dragons of all ages are living. However this place is threatened. Recently, races started again on Mos Takie and they use the galleries of the graveyard as a track. Unconscious of the dangers, the public even enter to watch the races to the despair of the dragon experts.

They are trying to preserve the place in respect for this very powerful animals and to save the life of the unaware visitors. Otherwise, it may be destroyed by the greediness of the sentient. Contacted by the experts, Jedi of Yavin 4 are in discussion on the creation of a sort of conservation society. Ideally rangers would be placed here and there to prevent the poachers to loot the sanctuary.— Daana Kira, Rakiko Lowtide

So… The Jedi are trying to protect these beasts? With rangers? That is somewhat troubling. Either they are dedicating normal gamekeepers to this task, Who will unlikely be able to stop anyone who is planning on going after Krayt dragon… Because lets be honest, they are more likely to eat, than be eaten. OR they are dedicating Jedi to the task of protecting the beasts, rather than dealing with corruption, slavery, smuggling, drugs trade and the like. Or is there some other interpretation I was meant to take?

Well the Jedi are meant to be peacekeepers and protectors of civilization and one of the hallmarks of civilization is being able to protect and use responsibly the environment around. And I don’t believe every Jedi is equipped to take on every type of criminal. Maybe some are just more talented at protecting the environment and creatures where if they tried to break up slavery, the slavers would just end up with a few more Jedi slaves. A couple of knowledgable Jedi with a well trained staff of rangers could protects these creatures on Tatooine showing that they aren’t going to stand by and let others take advantage of other creatures and upset the Tatooine ecosystem. Might encourage others on other worlds to setup up the same systems of protecting their ecosystems.
