Ship Shot Down Over Tython

April 25, 2012

GNN reporter Rakiko Lowtide was able to be on location for a downed ship on Tython. The wreckage was processed by the NJO and Tython authorities.

Tython: Since the kidnapping of Senator Nasaji Oba by most presumably the Tython Liberation Front (TLF), traffic in and out of the system has been tightly controlled. A blockade has been put into place by the New Republic Grand Fleet (NRGF) and the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR). Ships which aren’t easily identified can and probably will be searched manually or at least boarded to check credentials. This day however a ship tried to take off from the surface and would not respond to requests nor stopped to be boarded and in fact tried to flee from a marine landing party. To disable the ship, its engines and shields were targeted by fighters, but the ship exploded, with its wreckage crashing in the forest, setting a large area on fire.

The fire that raged after an unidentified ship crashed after being shot out by Republic forces as it tried to punch through the Tython blockade

Local emergency forces along with Rangers and NJO Jedi battled for several hours to gain control of the blaze and move civilians out of harms ways. Once the majority of the blaze had been brought under control and investigation of the ship proceeded. The governor, Zach Rodchester himself headed up the investigation. Not one to stay at an office seat, he had been on patrol when the ship was brought down.

From preliminary investigations, it was determined that the only ones on board were an old style battled droid and a sentient who’s badly charred body will now undergo testing to determine who the pilot was. The Governor is under the belief the ship belonged to the TLF, possible en-route to Nar Shaddaa where he believes they have ties with the rebels there that have been attacking Hutt interests. Though Kyle Asbrink of the Rangers theorized it was someone else because he thought it would be easy for TLF members to check through the blockade, if they even needed to. Only time and process of the scene will answer these questions.

Remains of the ship after evidence had been collected by local forces

It seems the ship was carrying fuel rods or some weapons parts which may have contributed it to blowing up from the disabling shots and causing the widespread fire. The ship was being targeted because it was thought it may have been carrying the Senator, though her remains were not found in the wreckage. Also recovered were computer parts, droid chips, and the organic remains of the pilot. All of the recovered items have been moved to be processed.

The Governor reiterated that persons leaving or coming to the system need to check through the blockade. Failure to do so, will result in the Fleet trying to board or disable the craft. The explosion today was an unfortunate event, and the navy will do everything to try to minimize such catastrophes, but the return of the senator is a high priority and there won’t be a problem for those that follow the rules and check themselves, their ship, and their cargo with the proper authorities.

The blockade will continue until the Senator is recovered and for those that frequently travel to and from the planet are encouraged to speak with the local authorities on obtaining a pass to expedite their travels.

Nasaji Oba isn’t just a citizen of a Republic world with a Senatorial seat. She also has dual citizenship in the Shili Imperial Realm and a seat on the Tribal Council, as well as being the former Ambassador from the Vashee Dynasty to Bothawui.

If she had been on that ship the NRGF had shot down, she would be dead now. We are most displeased with the way this was handled. Tython should expect a visit from us very soon.

The Jedi and their henchmen are just a brunch of trigger happy murderers! They’ll pay for this crime!
