More Problems on Tython and an Update on the Status of Senator Algoma

July 10, 2012

Reporters Daana Kira and Rakiko Lowtide were on Tython recently, and were able to speak with several Jedi, and senate candidate Sapphire Tafo. They also spoke with witnesses about a recent bombing and kidnapping around the Jedi temple.

Generators in fire

As Tyhon tries to recover from a major scandal involving their Senator, dealing with the Tython Liberation Front (TLF), and ships being fired upon from the surface, it now has come under the attack of others. Speaking with Jedi Claudia, she reported that a terrorist bombing took place in several of the building surrounding the Jedi Temple that ended the life of at least a hundred. As Jedi and others came to put out the flames and treat the injured, a initiate and a padawan from the New Jedi Order (NJO) and a padawan from another order (EJA) were then kidnapped by at this time unknown assailants who took them to Trandosha.

Tracking them to this New Confederacy planet, a team of Jedi were sent to rescue them led by Master Solo. Only one padawan was recovered and Master Solo was injured. The initiate and EJA padawan are still being held at this time somewhere on Trandosha.

Jedi Claudia

Lady Claudia also told of the return of another Jedi, Alexa, who had once been exiled as punishment for attacking the Nautolin teens reported in a previous report, which she still is under investigation by the a Senate committee led by the Vice-Chancellor. She had gone missing, but finally escaped from her captives on Nar Shaddaa that she described as a Sith and a Mandalorian. She’s recovering at this time from serious wounds.

As for the elections that were occurring for the Senate seat, Governor Zach Rodchester stated that they are being put on hold while his office investigates the arrest of acting Senator Link Algoma. He confirmed that the Senator was being held on Susevfi on several charges mainly those of assault including that of a pregnant woman.

Governor Zach Rodchester

The Governor believes that the Senator had gone there to try to stop the production of a superweapon that the Senator had made a local press release about. According to Link Algoma, Susevfi had been building a devastating world destroyer and the Republic had come to learn of its existence but had classified the information. Mr. Rodchester believes that Algoma tried on his own to find out the full truth and put a stop to it when he got involved in some sort of conflict that led to his assault arrest. However the Governor has to keep an open mind has he investigates the matter as part of his duties to the NRGF and the Republic.

He also stated that he has no information at this time if the weapon even exists, but was adamant that he would never allow a weapon like that to exist and would find out the truth arresting anyone trying to obstruct justice. Mr. Rodchester is also working with the Senate and Tython to appoint a temporary Senator to take Algoma’s place until the matter can be sorted.

Sapphire Tafo (centre left) and Jedi (right)

Not swayed by the controversies on Tython, Senate-candidate Sapphire Tafo campaign continues strongly with several supporters coming to her side even, including some NJO Jedi. Having recovered from a Kouhun attack during the debates and another assassination attempt by a droid, the candidate has not faltered in her wishes to become the next Senator and her message that she’ll bring those responsible for Tython’s problems to justice is ringing loudly in the populace. Lady Acker of the NJO stated that no conclusive evidence was found on who sent the poisonous bug or assassination droid and Miss Tafo would not comment on who might be trying to kill her due to lack of evidence and not wanting to sling mud in this campaign.

As for her opponent and the scandal surrounding him, Miss Tafo just stated that Tython needs a stable senator that doesn’t involve himself in violent outbursts. As for the superweapon that Mr. Algoma claimed exists, Miss Tafo said she would never have initiated a project to build such one, but if one has been built the Republic would be wise to have it part of their defenses as a warning to possible attackers to further make sure the citizens can live in peace and the Republic prospers. She stated that several of the locals she spoke with recently voiced the same argument to her.

As for the Senate keeping the information classified, Miss Tafo told that the Republic should be transparent, but for certain things, the release of information should be planned carefully, but made public ultimately such as during a holiday. She blamed her opponent Mr. Algoma for having revealled the information early in the hope to gain a few votes. She is optimistic of her campaign from the several words of encouragement she has been receiving and is more and more determined to “end with the violence and the disorder spread by enemies of the liberty.”

Sapphire Tafo maybe on to something with her campaign as a few locals told us that they are starting to believe that maybe things aren’t so rosy on their planet. Public opinion is swaying towards the Tython Liberation Front and their message that the Jedi would be really the ones controlling the planet, and as attacks continue on the planet, a part of the the public is also becoming more weary of the Republic. Hopefully, these things can be sorted out and the population can force their next Senator, whoever it is, to act directly as their voice.

That’s far too much destructive power for any government to have. For example, if the New Republic mutated into an oppressive regime the way the Old Republic did, the new dictators would have a ready-made terror weapon with which to scare the citizenry into line. Superweapons and the Tarkin Doctrine go hand in hand.

I would prefer a world without weapon myself, but they are here.

Having a weapon and Hiding a weapon are two different things. What other purpose to hide it than striking our enemy in the back? Even when they deserve such a fate, it’s only underusing this weapon and misunderstanding its veritable power. Let’s show it to the Galaxy, it will dissuade the many enemies to the Republic to harass us furthermore and it will inspire several hesitating worlds to rally to our protective wing and benefit the Democracy.

Although, It’s understandable the people of Susevfi want to make a blank shot first before announcing it. Link’s mistake is inexcusable.

“Let’s show it to the Galaxy, it will dissuade the many enemies to the Republic to harass us furthermore and it will inspire several hesitating worlds to rally to our protective wing and benefit the Democracy.”

That didn’t work so well for the Sith Empire, the Galactic Empire, or Durga the Hutt when they deployed the Star Forge, the Death Star, or the Darksaber. In fact, history has shown that building such a weapon actually frightens people too much. So much in fact, that they all start uniting against the possessor of such a weapon rather than cowering in the face of such a threat. The Tarkin Doctrine, when played out to it’s logical conclusion simply does not work. I can also bet you this…if it turns out the Galactic Senate authorized such a thing(which I doubt it has) people we currently have no quarrel with would start sharpening their knives against us. We’d not only have to worry about the Disciples of Ragnos and the New Confederacy, we’d also have to worry about Dathomir, Zonoma Seckot, Talus, etc.

As for getting worlds to flock to our wing? We already regularly get applications from worlds wanting to join the Republic. This isn’t because of our military or because of a superweapon. It’s because even though the Republic has it’s flaws we still offer things like freedom of speech, freedom from slavery, and more opportunities to determine your own destiny than any of our enemies.Look at the New Confederacy for example, where Redden and Kardel break your kneecaps or shoot you if they don’t like what you have to say. Do you see them regularly having new worlds asking to join them? That would be an akul-sized “no”.

Super weapons, eh? The Republic looks more and more like an empire every passing day. Even the Confederacy doesn’t have super weapons, for good reason. I’m curious as to when or how this took place, considering you need the senate’s vote to pass something like this. It’s also highly illegal according to the Republic’s laws which state no super weapons, and then there’s the fact that it’s highly expensive and time consuming. Might I remind you all that the Death Star the first galactic empire used took over thirty-two years to build?

“Even the Confederacy doesn’t have super weapons, for good reason.”

Yes, the good reason being the fact that your antiquated slave-based economy doesn’t have the funds for such a venture. Let’s get real, Kardel. If Redden could get his paws on a superweapon, we’d be seeing a new star system demolished every time somebody makes a joke about his fluffy tail. In your own words on board the Teal Masquerade, “Voren Redden doesn’t want peace”.

“I’m curious as to when or how this took place, considering you need the senate’s vote to pass something like this.”

Well, I doubt they did authorize this. Which means if somebody is building such a thing, then they’re doing it behind the Senate’s back. That would make the one behind such a project an enemy of the Republic, as well. In such a case of treason, I do believe the guilty party should go before a Republic firing squad.

(( On an OOC note, we’ve known about this for months. As I’ve said repeatedly, using super weapons without the sim’s permission is against SWRP community standards, and the construction of said weapons needs to be RP’d out for at least eight months to a year. It’s also against community standards to destroy planets, and it’s just bad RP to miraculously have a Death Star, especially if you’re a Republic world. ))

    • July 11, 2012 at 1:39 PM

((He, I don’t think they’ll message any sim owner claiming “Hi, we’ve role-played your sim is off.” Even if a sim owner consented, per policy, we’re not reporting here as facts claimed massive destructions.))

((It seems the weapon was built in secret without Republic funds or knowledge. This means its assembly would have been taking place long before the planet joined the Republic. IC time I am unsure of though. Its overall power should be decreased IC as ‘superweapons’ dont really have a place in SWRP unless it was used as a focus for an RP which ended with its destruction or consented usage (which i doubt any sim would given its power) ))

    • July 11, 2012 at 4:17 PM

((It’s also against community standards to destroy planets…))

((Yep. But I don’t think it’s against community standards to build a superweapon as a plot device, i.e. a superweapon made for the heroes to destroy in the nick of time before billions of innocents are killed.

I just don’t want to see a super weapon every week though.))

(( Remember the prequels of Star wars, from Phantom Menace to REVENGE OF SITH , the secret projects and construction in secret of Death Star))

The only problem with any of these theories is Susevfi does not have a super weapon. Nor or they even building one currently. People are clearly taking the word of a senator who has proven to be not the most rational of people. Nor is it a good thing to be throwing around rumors of things like this out proof. It seems to me the senator was looking for a reason to head to Susevfi. At the very least, there should be soild proof before people assume any of this is true.
