CIS Meeting Held on Korriban

October 29, 2012

GNN Reporters Daana Kira and Rakiko Lowtide attended the latest meeting of the Confederation of Independent Systems (CIS) on Korriban.

Korriban: A crowded CIS meeting was held, where five member systems were present with several guests. Rotating on a monthly basis, each member hosts meeting before the rotation goes to the next member. This meeting was hosted by Gistya Antilles, head of the Corellian Mining Corporation (CMC). Other members included Flint Mokeev of Zonama Sekot, Shaka the Hutt of Nar Shaddaa, Lady Kia of Dathomir, and Alariya Tzedek of Ilum. Guests included Issulla the Hutt, Ku’gan the Hutt, Senator Tafo of Tython, Abyssus of the Revenant Armada, along with several others.

CIS meeting on Korriban

First on the agenda were talks about Tython, where the CIS had agreed to help provide relief effort to that world. Now that the Empire has withdrawn, Lady Kia stated that relief was still required. In fact aid will be increased as the economy of that world is restored. Senator Tafo however voiced her concerns over recent political maneuvers occurring on that world between political positions and the Jedi, which is destabilizing the government even more. The CIS was concerned that their backing of the Terentatek Park as well as other business ventures on that world were in jeopardy. Not wanting to interfere in Tython’s politics, the CIS refrained from making any sweeping gesture, but stated they would protect their investments, continue to help the economy there, and also extended an invitation to Tython as a member if they would leave the Republic. A similar invitation was made by the Galactic Empire, so the people of Tython have a serious choice to make about their future.

Shaka also warned the other Hutt about possible conflict between the Republic after they arrested Thalia Janick from Velmor. She would be tortured in their cells. Senator Tafo plead for her release and would have negotiate with the Hutt after the meeting.

Next on the agenda was adding to the security measure enacted at the last meeting whereby the CIS would compensate for security. An addition to the security pact whereby each member would contribute an equal share for security was passed.

After the passing of the legislation, votes were held by new members. Requiring an unanimous vote, Issula’s clan which controls Sleheyron and Mustafar were put up for vote to join the CIS. All voted in favour except for the representative from Ilum who was concerned that the Hutts are actually all part of a larger confederation which barred individual worlds from joining the CIS if they had loyalties to other factions. Plus by adding more Hutt members a voting bloc could be created whereby the Hutts in essence controlled the CIS. After a discussion by the Hutts of how the Council was set up, the matter was held over to the next meeting whereby more information could be obtained.

Also being held over to the next meeting was the price to compensate Abyssus and his Revenant Armada for providing security to some of the CIS shipping lanes. The first quoted prices drew hesitation from worlds such as Zonama Sekot who stated that they would review the matter more in detail and come up with a more fair payment. Zonama did state much of their contribution would most likely be foodstuffs but declined Antilles request that their share could be paid by opening up mining rights. For now there seems to be enough to pay the Revenant what they need.

The next CIS meeting, also held on Korriban, will most likely include more votes on possible members as well as an accounting and an outline of security payments.”

Sadly, the negotiation didn’t lead to Thalia’s release.
