Chaos in Tython

October 30, 2012

GNN Reporter Rakiko Lowtide travelled to the Republic world of Tython after hearing of trouble there while at the CIS meeting.

It has been less a dozen of days since the people of Tython liberated their planet from the occupation of the Galactic Empire. On removal of the blockade, Vice-Governor Terah Avon who was appointed by Zach Rodchester returned and began seizing power throughout the government with the backing of the New Jedi Order and portions of the Republic. Opposing her has been Tython Senator Sapphire Tafo who helped lead the Resistance movement during the occupation. The Senator is backed by the still armed resistance forces and other factions of the Republic.

Senator Tafo speaking with Jedi after the government was secured by Tython resistance forces.

Earlier in the week after a meeting between the Governor and the Senator, a warrant was issued by the governor against the Senator on the account of bringing what she said was an illegal creature, the Terentatek, to Tython, even though both the NJO and the previous civilian government had allowed it, and for a vague proclamation of Treason. The warrants in question were immediately suspect since the Republic constitution would forbid the governor from issuing such against the senator, but this nonetheless provoked the Senator and the Republic Commander Cirden Fang to issue their own charges against the Governor including transportation of contraband, usurping a Republic world, and several other charges. The whole mess started with the Governor’s refusal to allow Republic aid to land on the planet because she hadn’t been given control over it.

From these legally dubious warrants, the NJO then intervened first trying to place both the Senator and Governor under house arrest and to stand trial for charges that were never declared. This resulted in the imprisonment of Senator Tafo’s head of security, Shogarii, who stated he was only acting under his duty protecting the Senator from an illegal arrest. The Senator herself escaped the ordeal while the Governor who is backed by several of the NJO Jedi was allowed to be free.

Following these events, Senator Sapphire joined with leaders of the resistance movement, now making up what is the only Tython military to secure the Government building. Sapphire was taking control of the government under the constitution stating the Governor is unfit to lead. To help fill ranks, bodyguards were hired, who for unknown reasons turned on the resistance leaders, though they were finally turned away and the government building taken into custody by the Tython people, though with a much weaker force.

During this time, the Jedi were able to obtain arrest warrants from the Republic Minister of Defense Lerina Desri. These warrants included vague charges of disabling Tython defenses and trying to negotiate to have Tython become part of the Galactic Empire. Since both issues have been publicly addressed before and the Senator not even involved with Tython’s defenses the reason for the charges are anyone’s guess. During this time no Judge or Court has been asked to set these warrants, politicians doing it through undefined powers.

Complicating the matter was the injuring of Republic war hero, Chelsea Blauvelt who arrived on Tython for unknown reasons and tried to apprehend the Senator on the previous questioned warrants, though what authority she was acting under is unknown at this time. She was nonetheless shot by a stun bolt by the leader of the Tython Brigade Colonel Saf’erin, which somehow reopened wounds she experienced on Coruscant. The retaliation had occurred after she fired on the Senator to take her into custody. She was being treated for the wounds by the Colonel when a detachment from the Grand Army (GAR) who was on Tython for some reason was asked by a Jedi to help restore order. The Grand Army took Chelsea to a medical facility.

Following the securing of the government building by the Tython Brigade, Jedi from several orders arrived. Some stating they wished to end the chaos through diplomacy others wanting to add even more charges to the Republic warrants including one whereby the Senator had gathered funds from the Hutts to help the Tython economy. Another unexpected charge since several of the Republic worlds trade openly with the Hutts. After a meeting with the Senator most of the Jedi left satisfied with her answers.

Senator Sapphire Tafo

Following the Jedi interview Senator Tafo made a few comments. First she said their talks on the governor were irrelevant, but did listen to what they had to say. For now she’s just focused on helping Tyhton move forward. As for the Republic’s response by ordering an investigation and issuing warrants, she didn’t really know why they were doing this, especially at this time wanting to arrest freedom fighters, but stated its been the Republic’s way so far to marginally help and interfere with Tython. As for the current situation she had this to say ” “I’m sad everything arrive while our people need unity..  the profiteers, the ones keeping their cushy jobs out of the front lines, we now see them all coming in, to take profit and defaming the Resistance that  now the war is over.

In the coming days we hope to be able to speak to the Tython Governor, Republic officials and Jedi involved in the case.

Article 1, Section 3: Individual Rights
Article 1, Section 3, Subsection I: Rights class designation “A” – all dwellers on the Galactic Senate of the Republic (GSoNR) member worlds.
I:8 A GSoNR citizen has at all times the right to be secure in their persons, residences, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, without written warrants issued from the office of the Galactic Senate Chancellor, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

I would be asking where the Minister of Defence feels it is his job to issue warrants? As it would be the job of the Chief Justice or Chancellor.

I am also not surprised that NJO is creating yet another headache not only for the people of Tython, but also for the Republic. Looking at other alternatives for being a part of a intergalactic government is not a crime. Committing to one while still apart of the Republic is.

Disabling Tythons Military? The New Republic Grand Fleet had majority of it moved away from Tython during my time as Chancellor during the war with the New Confendarcy to assist our worlds that were under heavy attack from the New Confendarcy.

The media is creating a story far from the truth. We did not issue arrest warrants without the Republic, the Jedi simply advised the Senator not to leave Tython and answer the claims made against her.

Since the Senator has no office under her or no military to defend Tython in its time of need. We Jedi had no option but to help our people.

The senator has admitted to letting the hutts take money out of our economy when our people are starving and homeless this has lead to the temple being used a shelter for orphans and homeless people. The NJO has acted in defense of the Republic and the Planet system… as Senator Tafo wanted to enter Tython into the Empire or CIS.

I never said the Jedi issued warrants. I said they went to the Republic to obtain them after trying to back dubious ones issued by the Governor and as the former Chancellor pointed out the correct person may not have even issued them. And the Jedi were using these warrants as the reason for the Senator not to leave, and I heard some of them stating that the Senator should be placed in a cell. And if it was just advisement why was the head of security arrested? Second I believe the Hutts have invested in Tython not the other way around as reported in other stories and any orphaned and homeless people are probably due to the occupation. And again the matters of other factions offering Tython to join them have been made public in other stories as well along with the context. And as the former Chancellor stated its not a crime to look at alternatives. But GNN would be glad to speak to the Jedi on the matters and where I was at fault of not reporting the facts, but your statements haven’t shown otherwise.

Aren’t the hutts entitled to that money? It’s generated from corporations they invested in. If you want to cripple Tython by making it unappealing for trade after breaking contracts, that seems like a bad idea…

Nowadays, everyone feels capable to issue a warrant against a Senator of the Republic. Vice Governor hidden during the occupation, Jedi of all sort, War Minister coming ten days after the battle, you ask it. Worst, when you shrugs and walk away from one of those illegal warrant, they issue another warrant for having escaped the first one.

I’m only trying to organise elections for people can determine their leader and their future… something the named Vice Governor or the Jedi sound hostile for some reason.

People of our verdant Tython are not starving. There is still victims of wars and the reconstruction is slow, but you should blame the vice governor for blocking the supplies. Fortunately the independent spaceport of the Terentatek Park is temporarily reconverted to welcome help from the Galaxy.

Jedi should have better to do than harassing the freedom fighters for the benefit of the profiteers hidden during the occupation and surfacing now by miracle.

*Turns on his holonet on his desk pearing down watching the reports of Tython* “You see even when your planet is liberated from The Galatic Empire. The infighting starts” he said with a chuckle “Jedi call themselves the peace keepers of the galaxy.. But all i see is more proof that they are a parasite only living for their own need. Needing to be involved where they do not belong and are not wanted” and with that he clicks off his holonet on his desk and goes silent*

Why is Tython always a headache? It is as if they set out to do this. Personally I feel as though Tafo has gotten far to much leeway, in so much as she is allowed to act how she sees fit at the moment. Much like a child, which she behaves like most of them time. The second she does not get what she wants she starts to kick and scream at the top of her lungs. Its a pity, truth be told.

The Chief Justice of the New Republic annulled this infamous and illegal warrant. Those having been hidden during the dark period of the occupation would have to find something else to mask their inactivity than defaming and suing the partisans and the freedom fighters.

I want to thank everyone proposing their help to mitigate the situation. This thanks also concern the Empire, which I fought uncompromisingly when they were occupying our land. Even if I think a peace and good understanding shall be achieved, I believe a direct help now without the ascent of the people will be counter-productive.

There is no surprise the Queen Morrigan of Bengat, used to keep citizens in jail without trial, is puzzled on the concept of “debate”.

Quite a mess has been made out of Tython in the recent weeks. First, the Galactic Empire, then the political disharmony. Where does it end? I would strongly advise Tython’s citizens that leaving the Republic will only solidify their current state of vulnerability.
