Objections at the Velmor Coronation

November 5, 2012

GNN reporter Rakiko Lowtide attended the coronation ceremony of Thalia Janick on Velmor.

As Princess Thalia Janick was named as the new Queen of Velmor several objections arose throughout the event. Most notable three persons came forward, the Grandfather of Thalia, Selkisto Horten, long-time Velmor politician, Hixal Aulus and Tython Senator Sapphire Tafo. Other murmurs were also heard from the audience time to time but were mostly drowned out by the large number of supporters invited to the event.

Before the actual ceremony had began, Selkisto Horten took the floor. One of the writers of the PGA constitution so long ago he was clearly angered by the ceremony. In his own words this is what he had to say “Look at this crap. Look at it. Do you know what Velmor stood for? It stood for freedom- for democracy. It stood for being willing to get your hands dirty, to get down in the mud and live in it for twenty years for what you believed in. These people,” he swings his cane towards the throne people, “these people are closet despots. They glorify everything and everyone, every ideal that we oppose. They say we ‘want a monarch again.’ What the kriff is that poodoo? Does anyone seriously believe that? Just abandon hard-fought democracy on a whim? You know what I feel, standing up here? I feel shame. Shame for this planet- for this galaxy. For my family. And I am disgusted. All this crap all over the place, the fancy poodoo. This is all junk. It’s nonsense. It’s illusions. And you’re all deluded if you think any of this makes a lick of sense.” These comments then earned him with a banishment from the ceremony and the city itself as he was escorted away by armed security.

On a follow-up he contacted GNN to add this saying it was his next words if he hadn’t been escorted away “I am literally this woman’s grandfather. I wasn’t invited to her coronation. I’m not good enough to stand among people who appear out of nowhere to claim titles and pretty dresses, and do jack all else. This is a farce. And what I want you to do is get up, raise your arms int he air and shout, ‘I’m mad as hell, and I’m not gonna take it anymore!’ Except you won’t do that because you’re all lazy, blind, delusional kriffers”

End of Ceremony arguments

Next near the end of the ceremony, Hixal Aulus made himself known to the galaxy once again by coming forward. He made the claim that he was locked away by those composing of the new Velmor Monarchy without evidence and without the rights afforded to Republic citizens. As he was making claims of his rights, security headed by Republic Commander Cirden Fang arrested the former politician on a charge of heading the conspiracy that assassinated a Chancellor. Hixal then said he would defend himself in this unfair trial to show the galaxy how republic citizens were treated. With that he was taken into custody and transported away.

At the end of the ceremonies, Tython Senator, Sapphire Tafo who has been a vocal opposition against several of the monarchies also made public statements denouncing the coronation of this Queen. In her own words she had this to say, “The democracy has fell apart. Worlds are turning to absolute regimes  and the people can just mourn their lost freedom” and the “poisonous regime contaminated the value in the Republic. One monarch passed, then another, from a blocking minority, you’ve now infiltrated our institution and cannot be blocked by the law… And the result is no more solidarity with the people, nepotism and diplomacy with the arms in hand.” Many looked enraged at the senator, even some looking to take physical action, but everyone’s self control and Tafo’s large head of security, Shogarii seemed to have given them pause and she left without further incident. Furthermore on leaving in a satirical statement the Senator stated that if she is arrested for speaking out she’ll just call her aunt up and have her send her fleet to rescue her.

At the banquet there was talk about the objectors, most agreeing that they shouldn’t have interrupted such a ceremony, but no one really knew exactly what would happen to those taken into custody. As for Senator Tafo, many of the Senators spoke about an investigation of Treason against her, but wouldn’t give details, evidence, or any other statements, citing security and that the ceremony wasn’t the place to answer such questions.

“Hixal Aulus made himself known to the galaxy once again by coming forward.”

Called it. Someone owes me a hundred credits again.

Ministry of Propaganda… that word alone has negative connotations. I see nothing threatening here, since true propaganda is better served subtle than blatantly.

Are you suggesting they should take model on our lovely republic government where the minister of diplomacy is taken arm in hand attacking the Hutt and the minister of war remain unhelpful to occupied worlds?

(Last edit! Please use this one, thanks!)

Unfortunately I haven’t heard from Grandfather Selkisto in ages. It’s a shame, really, because I could’ve learned a thing or two from him. I believe the last time we conversed was when I was about fourteen years old or so (back when I looked like some odd, long-limbed thing from the deep). If I recall correctly, this was an open invitation ceremony and I tried to make sure everyone was well informed (family, advisors, citizens, etc). If he desired a special invitation of some kind, I would have gladly presented him one had he asked. Additionally, I was truly puzzled by his statements. Of course the palace was all fancied up and the advisors and such were wearing gowns… it was a ceremony, after all. Had we been close when I was growing up, perhaps he would have seen the fire in my eyes and the desire to fight for the people and only the people. Maybe he would have been more comfortable with the current state of Velmor, I just don’t know. I’m proud of my family and the Velmorian citizens and I will not allow others to beat me down. My grandparents worked themselves to the bone so that I and the rest of our family could live well and prosper. I lead with heart, much like he and his wife did. Though I both admire and respect him for his legacy and how much he sacrificed for the good of the galaxy, I’m afraid I never spent much time with the old chap and I can’t say that I ever truly knew him. I spent the majority of my life with Mass Questi, Tiffany Vandergraff, and my twin brother Orion.

If anyone would like to come to the palace for some tea and discussion, all are welcome. I’m rather disappointed in the way I’ve been depicted so far. Why is there so much negativity in this galaxy? What happened to the goodness in people and believing in a cause? I’m not going make an assumption based on what I personally think the people of the galaxy want or need. In fact, I haven’t the slightest clue as to how the people feel about the current state of things. Come and talk to me, face to face. Consider this message an invitation to the people of the galaxy. My home is yours and the Velmorian palace on Den Velmor is always welcome to you. Oh and I do my best to travel as well, so I’m certain you’ll see me bopping around on certain planets from time to time. My health is not the best these days and it gets hard for me to travel, but I do my best.

(I didn’t realize Selkisto was still active in the SWRP community because we haven’t really spoken in years but if he is, welcome back! I had no idea he posted anything either. I must have been out of chat range. I’m sorry you were kicked from the sim, Selk. Had I known you posted, I would have engaged you in rp)

( What happened to my comments? It looks like they were deleted. )

There was a lot of hubbub at the coronation. However, try as they might, I will always stand firm. I work for the people and only the people. Selkisto Horten is indeed my grandfather and a Velmorian royal by marriage. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen him in ages. The last time we conversed was when I was fourteen (back when I looked like an absurd, long-limbed monster from the deep). I was puzzled by his statements, of course. I lead with heart and I intend to prove myself not only to the Velmorian people but to the galactic citizens at large. I’m inspired by my grandparents and appreciative of the fact that they both worked themselves to the bone so that I and the rest of our family can live well and prosper. Perhaps if Selkisto were better acquainted with myself and the well-intentioned people involved in the monarchy, he would be more accepting of Velmor’s current state. He’s a highly regarded member of the galaxy and his support and acceptance means a lot to me. However, his reasons are valid and I would rather see a more democratic version of the monarchial government. I was elected by the Velmorian parliament and the Velmorian citizens received me well but I would prefer to give them absolute decision in who leads them. Perhaps my grandfather and I can work together in the future. I’m more democratic than he thinks and I could use his sagely advice. In fact, I’m attempting to turn the current Velmorian monarchy into an elective monarchy so it better serves the Velmorian people. It will not happen overnight, of course.

Hixal is a rather confusing person in my opinion. He apparently faked his death three times for the good of the galaxy. He’s also accused of murdering a former member of the Republic. Velmor had to comply to his arrest because he’s an enemy of the Republic and Velmor is indeed a Republic world. However, I ended up escorting Hixal to Den Velmor’s jail so I could talk to him in private. I’ve never met him before and I’ve yet to see evidence of his crimes from the Republic. With that being said, I wanted to at least hear him out because every soul deserves to be heard. I’m not quite sure what his fate will be but until I’m going to reserve judgement until I’ve seen ample evidence of his crimes. I wasn’t terribly convinced by his story but deep down I hope he’s innocent.

Senator Tafo, your reasons for disliking absolute regimes are perfectly valid. I’m more democratic by nature and would rather see the current Velmorian monarchy turn into an elective one. However, your constant harping on this subject wears thin on my patience and it’s not doing any favors for the galaxy at large.

In wrapping this very long response, I would like to say that I haven’t the slightest clue as to what the galactic citizens want or need. Therefore, I would like to invite the galactic citizens to Velmor for some tea and discussion. Tell me your thoughts, face to face. How can we improve the galaxy? I don’t pretend to know your answers. I want to hear them myself.

    Best,
    Queen Thalia Janick

( OOC Sidenote: I had no idea Selkisto was still involved in the SWRP community because I haven’t spoken to him in years. Additionally, I had no idea he posted. I would have engaged him in role play if I knew. It was entirely my mistake for kicking him from the sim. I believed he was trolling. If he’s back in SWRP, welcome back! )

Thank you for the tea and sorry for the exhaustion. I would return to supervise how Velmor’s people are handled.

But if you want a fair regime for the people, why using the form of one having such an opposed image… A monarchy… one person deciding for all the others, which have to obey sometimes like would the slaves do. Beside for some species, such a thing never worked for the people’s interest.

What next? A Democratic Sith Empire? A Fair Dictatorship? A Respectful Tyranny?

Why do you feel surprised the old Selkisto which fought for the liberty and promoted the People’s Galactic Alliance rise up against such an idea? A government of the People is hardly compatible with the Rule of One.

Senator Tafo, I’m afraid we’re going to have to agree to disagree. If the people of Velmor are truly unhappy with me, I will either take up another position or perhaps Velmor will return to its parliamentary system. I welcome you to Velmor anytime you like and I wish you all the luck in your future endeavors with Tython.

    Best,
    Thalia

Senator, you miss that my actions were meant to reinforce my words. Whatever I say will always be backed up by immediate action. Of course, My own talks with Shaka never went anywhere, and well, the Republic wanted the Then princess back, so I acted. You know I always back up my words with action, that’s why we had that debate.
